Sandeep Mohandas
Mr. Mohandas has more than 22 years of experience in the petrochemical industry, with expertise spanning process design, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), and process safety management (PSM). The first decade of his career was spent in hands-on roles within refining and petrochemical operations, where he contributed extensively to greenfield projects from initial design through EPC execution.
Since 2006, Mr. Mohandas has played a key role in the development and implementation of formal PSM programs at a large petrochemical manufacturing facility. His work has included authoring policies and procedures aligned with industry, regulatory, and corporate standards, as well as overseeing their effective implementation. He has also been actively involved in plant emergency response, serving both as a responder and as a member of incident command post teams, and has led two major process safety incident investigations.
Mr. Mohandas brings strong practical experience in process safety applications, having led, organized, participated in, and documented more than 20 Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and hundreds of Layer of Protection Analyses (LOPAs), as well as hundreds of Cost/Benefit Analysis (CBA) in support of risk tolerance decisions. He has conducted numerous Management of Change (MOC) risk reviews and approvals, led incident investigations, and performed over 150 Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs). In addition, he has contributed to gap analyses and audits supporting the development and enhancement of PSM programs. Mr. Mohandas has performed about 100 SIL verifications in support of Safety Instrumented System (SIS) management.
He helped pioneer the development of methods for exempting relief valves from the need to consider the fire case (applying exemptions allowed in UG 140 of ASME Section VIII code) and he co-authored definitive papers on the topic.
He has also developed and delivered training materials across a range of topics, including PSM, asset management, PSSRs, process safety information (PSI), action management, (SIS).
