Matías Massello

Matías Massello | Process Safety Management Instructor | Process Improvement InstituteMr. Massello is a chemical and functional safety engineer from Argentina with a strong foundation in process safety engineering with more than 15 years of experience. Mr. Massello has led, organized, participated in, and documented more than 100 Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), conducted over a thousand Layer of Protection Analyses (LOPAs), completed numerous Management of Change (MOC) risk reviews, and performed more than 10 Quantitative Risk Analyses (QRAs). Matias has been involved on numerous PSM audits and helped on PSM applicability reviews.

In addition to his project work, Mr. Massello has developed customized training materials for oil, gas, and petrochemical companies, with a focus on PHA, QRA, and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). He has performed more than 1000 SIL verifications and helped developed SIL Solver Lite (an app for PII/Trinity Consultants). He has also contributed to the development of Process Safety Management (PSM) guidelines, supporting organizations in strengthening their safety frameworks and practices.

Mr. Massello’s expertise in chemical process safety strongly supports his role as an instructor for a wide range of technical training courses. He has a BS in Chemical Engineering.

He helped pioneer the development of methods for exempting relief valves from the need to consider the fire case (applying exemptions allowed in UG 140 of ASME Section VIII code) and he co-authored definitive papers on the topic.

He has also developed and delivered training materials across a range of topics, including PSM, asset management, PSSRs, process safety information (PSI), action management, (SIS).
